ABOUT SREE NARAYANA GURU

Sree Narayana Guru was born on 20th August 1856 to Madan Asan and Kuttiyamma in Kerala, India. He was a mystic, philosopher, social reformer, and a poet. He stated the principles of unity for his people. Elimination of the caste system was the primary aim of Guru’s social activities. He argued against treating people unequally on the basis of caste differences. In 1904, he opened a school for children at Sivagiri, near Varkala, Kerala and provided free education to them without considering their caste. His teachings are straight forward and simple, bringing out spiritual, moral and material revolution. He also built temples for lord Shiva in various places of Kerala, disregarding the caste-based norms of the time.
